Sales Department and Marketing and Trading Department

Due to the very wide assortment of the KHNO POLAN PLC company, the department is subdivided into two sections, namely the floral section and the vegetable section.

One of the major functions of the department is handling the selling process. For this purpose, our company maintain contact with wholesalers, hypermarkets, retail networks and post offices. Sales dialogues are conducted. The department also reacts to the reported demands, currently supplying individual locations.

In the preparation of the product and the offer, the department, having data on the demand for the seeds, sends instructions to the warehouses and packing centres in order to pack the required number of seeds. It prepares an annual plan of a so-called ‘contractation’, which is an involuntary agreement between a producer and a recipient to sell agricultural products at established prices, and forwards it to the Department of the Seed Contracting and Processing.

Employees are also responsible for buying seeds of flowers, vegetables and bulbs. In order to meet the most stringent quality criteria, purchased material is transferred to analysis. Personnel keep up-to-date record and complement the documents of seeds stored in bulk.

The department responsible for marketing, deals with promotion and establishing the image of the company in the business environment. It prepares plans for marketing activities and is responsible for their implementation. It develops methods and forms of brand promotion, drawing up barter and sponsorship agreements and it cooperates with universities in the organisation of events. It also deals with the complementation of documents of selected varieties and with submitting them to international and domestic competitions. It participates in the preparation of informational and promotional materials, multimedia presentations and trainings. It organises corporate events, representatives’ trips to fairs and exhibitions as well as visits of the guest in the company.

Breeding Department

This department is the source of all innovation in the company. Its primary task is to keep creative and conservative breeding of the ground vegetables and flowers varieties. This must be understood as efforts to create new varieties, as well as to maintain a constant high level of quality of the previously bred varieties. In this regard, attention of the employees is mainly focused on economically important species such as onion, beetroot, french bean, white cabbage, carrot, field cucumber or radish.

The current growing objective is to seek to increase the resistance of plants, so that it would be possible to reduce the amount of spraying. This is an ecologically and health oriented trend, which is beneficial for our customer eating natural product subjected to minimal effect of chemicals.

Traditional techniques, enriched by molecular and biotechnological methods are used in the growing process. New varieties are tested in ecological conditions, which increase the resistance of the root system and tolerance to diseases.

Works on new projects are conducted within the research-implementation themes, which gather the best growers and research institutions like: universities and institutes of natural assets. The cooperation, undoubtedly successful, results in innovative products such as the only Polish FRIDA hybrid radish variety.

Export Department

Employees of this department are primarily responsible for the sale of seeds, contact with existing customers and attracting new foreign customers. For this purpose, they are engaged in the preparation of product offer and they are involved in international trade fairs and business meetings with companies.

Since only the varieties which are registered abroad can be the subject of international trade, the department provides for their registration in third countries. It also cares about the formal support of the export activity, culminating in an effective customs clearance and is solely responsible for the preparation of the accounts.

Given the increasing size of the sales, the department is involved in the preparation of leaflets, catalogues and folders.

The effectiveness of our actions reveals in the growing volume of consumer countries of our seeds. Export takes place to 17 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Baltic countries, Belarus, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary or Germany, as well as Egypt and Iran.

Economics and Personnel Organising Department

In a broad sense, the department deals with organisation and execution of tasks related to personnel matters and personal information. In this regard, it controls the absences and keeps record of employee files. As part of its remit, it also coordinates the work of the Social Committee.

In addition, the department staff is involved in the preparation of agricultural reports and recording lands subordinate to the company.

The department also carries out the tasks from the health and safety field by conducting trainings for employees as well as coordinating, organising and implementing health and safety regulations within the company.

Department of Finance and Accounting

The department provides full accounting needed by the company.

Among many tasks, the department is responsible for accounting of purchases and spending, for the implementation of settlements with contractors and growers, for settling balances between accounts and for maintenance of taxes and payment of benefits to other institutions. It also controls the financial position of warehouses and shops, and exercises financial supervision over the sale. It fully realises tasks of financial reporting, including the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss accounts and others.

Department of the Seed Contracting and Processing

This department is the one with which the process of seed production begins. It receives information from the sales department about the demand for seeds in a given year, and it deals with the realisation of the contractation plan. In the course of this plan, the department analyses the level of the starting material, that is, the amount of the seeds available to the company. Then, it focuses on the organisation of contracting meetings with a view to concluding an agreement with producers to replenish stocks and to obtain the required number of seeds.

After establishing the seed production, the department deals with constant inspections and controls of plantation, helping the growers with its knowledge and experience. The next stage of the department’s activity is the process of purchasing the produced seeds and, depending on the requirement, its processing and improving as well as preparing it to sale.

Laboratory

The laboratory is a unit exercising general control over the quality of seeds. Here, the seeds are being tested in terms of purity, moisture content and germination. In case of failure to comply with any of those criteria, the seeds are sent to processing. Multistage process of control is completed by issuing the certificate which enables selling of the seeds. Additionally, at certain intervals, the renewal of germination is conducted.
